A LETTER FROM DOLOS HIMSELF

I am glad that my letter has reached you well, I am Dolos – a mutant just like yourself. For the past several years, the mutant genome has been a much discussed topic around the globe. When the first mutant appeared in South Korea, or superheroes as they called us back then, put out a fire in an apartment complex and saved everyone in it before the fire brigade got there had everyone ecstatic – a brother and sister who could freeze objects and fly. It was remarkable. However, as more of us came out to the public excitement quickly turned into fear, and mutants were seen as a threat to human life itself.

Now, as you are aware, the conflict between humankind and mutants has forced the government to begin seeking out young mutants in hopes of taking them out of the public eye. With Sentinels desperately trying to track every mutant in South Korea, I have opened a safe haven for you. There will be professors and staff, and advanced technological instruments to help you train and utilize your powers.

Dolos' School for the Peculiar was opened in 1997 by myself and a close group of loyal acquaintances. These acquaintances are still at the school today, teaching young mutants such as yourself. We started with a small amount of students and slowly grew over the years as threats towards mutantkind became more and more common. We have seen students and staff perish to the hands of Sentinels, anti-mutant organisations and other mutants who have fallen into the wrong hands. I promise, this fate shall not befall you.

There is no such thing as heroes and villains. The world is made up of people with both light and dark inside them. In the end, it comes down to what part they act on. How the students choose to live their life after their time here is up to them. Whether they decide to merge with human life, train others like themselves or fight against the very people that seek to destroy us. The choice, despite being a difficult one, is ultimately theirs.

My students are not freaks. They are gifted, rather unusually, but gifted nonetheless. I promise, you will be safe here. I shall see you this coming semester. We shall be waiting for you.

Sincerely,
Headmaster Dolos
